Underwater bridal portraits • Cairns • also known as trash the dress

Wear your dress one more time. Somewhere it has never been.

A graceful, dreamlike portrait session for brides who want to mark the end of their wedding chapter with something completely unexpected. In a calm, shallow pool, with your safety as the first priority, every time.

One more unforgettable moment

A different kind of bridal portrait.

Most wedding dresses are worn once, then carefully packed away. This is a chance to wear yours again, somewhere extraordinary, and to create images that are entirely different from anything taken on your wedding day.

Underwater, your dress moves in a way that is impossible to capture on land. Fabric flows, light filters through the water, and the whole image takes on a quiet, dreamlike quality. It is graceful, not destructive. Nothing about this session needs to be rough or careless.

This is a relaxed, intimate session, always in a calm, controlled pool. Never open water, never a current, never anything that compromises your safety.

Your safety, always first

Underwater bridal sessions done properly and carefully.

Always a calm, controlled pool

Every session takes place in a pool, never open water or the ocean. There is no current, no tide, and no unpredictable conditions to manage.

You stay where you can stand

If you are wearing a heavier dress, we work in the shallow end where you can always stand up and breathe freely. We never go deep with a heavy gown.

I am in the water with you the whole time

I am never shooting from a distance. I am beside you, watching how the dress and the water are moving together, and guiding every moment.

PADI Divemaster, first aid and CPR certified

I bring professional water safety training to every session, not just photography experience. Your safety is never an afterthought.

More flexible than you might think

It does not have to be the dress.

This session is not only for the gown you got married in. Many brides choose to wear a separate, lighter dress instead, especially if their wedding gown is heavy, sentimental, or one they want to preserve untouched.

  • Wear your actual wedding dress if you would like to, with full awareness of how water may affect the fabric.
  • Choose a separate, lightweight, flowing dress instead. Many brides prefer this, particularly for anything delicate, beaded, or heavily structured.
  • This session does not need to happen right after your wedding. Many couples book this for their first anniversary or another meaningful date later on.
  • We talk through dress choice and fabric type together beforehand, so there are no surprises about how it will move and behave in the water.

On the day

A relaxed, unhurried experience.

Before your session we talk through your dress, your vision, and any nerves you might have. We agree exactly how deep we will go and what you feel comfortable with.

On the day, we start slowly. I guide you through how the dress will feel and move in the water before we begin shooting properly. There is no rush and nothing is forced.

Afterward we meet for a relaxed in-person image reveal, where you choose the images and products you would like to take home.

I had the BEST shoot with Angelina! She is so professional, very caring and conscious of the model. She is always giving you tips and pointers to be more beautiful underwater and I couldn’t be happier with the results! If you want an incredible experience, professional photographer (who knows how to pose) and EPIC photos at the end then see her!

Questions

Everything you need to know.

If your question is not here, send me a message. I am always happy to talk through any concerns before you book.

Will this damage or ruin my dress?

Most dresses come through completely fine. Synthetic fabrics like polyester and tulle handle water very well. Delicate silk or heavily beaded gowns need more care, and we talk through your specific dress beforehand so there are no surprises.

Do I have to wear my actual wedding dress?

Not at all. Many brides choose a separate, lighter dress for this session, especially if their wedding gown is delicate or sentimental. We can talk through what will work best for the images you want.

Is this safe? I am not a confident swimmer.

Yes. Every session takes place in a calm, controlled pool. If you are wearing a heavier dress, we stay in the shallow end where you can stand at any time. I am in the water with you throughout, and you are never put in a position that feels unsafe. You will also have a dedicated safety swimmer with you whose job is to keep you safe at all times.

Does this need to happen right after the wedding?

No. While many brides book this in the weeks after their wedding, it is just as meaningful when done on a first anniversary or any date that feels right to you.

Can my partner or bridal party join?

Yes, this can be arranged. Let me know when we are planning your session, and we can talk through what that would look like.

How do I book?

A $300 session fee secures your date and includes one digital image of your choice. Email me to get the process started. After your session, we meet for a relaxed in-person image reveal where you select any additional images or products you love.
